What happened to the good ‘old’ days when they used to make farcical movies that were fantastically funny, creatively clever, and indelible icons of future films themselves? You know like the Airplane! Movies? While I like the premise for Date Movie (tag line—“written by two of the six writers of Scary Movie”) satirizing the date movie also sometimes known as the ‘chick flick’, the end result is this year’s worst comedy so far. Needlessly gross (people coughing up human hair balls, reliant on racist stereotypical material that not only aren’t funny now, never were funny (too many too list); trite (Michael Jackson references?), and plain pitiful (an entire scene of super-modelesque Sophie Monk smearing Big Macs® all over herself and a Mercedes®?), this film has few redeeming qualities with the possible exception of Adam Campbell’s portrayal of Grant—the main character, good guy, love interest to Alyson (Band Camp girl from American Pie) Hannigan’s extremely super-sized girl transformed Julia Jones. Mr. Campbell brings some decency to his role—at least as much as can be expected in this film. It really makes me mad to have to give a movie a W.I.P. of $3. Why do they even make such films. This one is simply dreadful. I looked at my watch 20 times to see how long it would be until it was over, and that was during the first 10 minutes. There has to be a better use of your time, energy, and money that going to see this horrendous film. Remember, it’s my job to go and alert you, so consider yourself forewarned.
