Spoiler Points:
• Realizing that to be an effective mistress for Yee, Wang Chia Chi (Wei Tang) must have training, one of the guys volunteers to teach her the ways of rousing intercourse. She is not that eager to receive him, but it is all part of the training. He is thought to be the best one to teach her as he has experience with prostitutes.
• The incident which sends Wang Chia Chi running off into the night the evening she learns that the Yees are relocating to Shanghai begins with the arrival at the Mak residence by one of the Yee's former drivers. He forces his way in only to find the Mak family is not the Mak family at all. He claims to have had suspicions all along, but now he wants retribution. Mr. Yee has decided not to take him with the family to Shanghai, and he knows that Mr. Yee would pay a heavy price to know of the betrayal by Mak Tai Tai (Wei Tang). Not wanting to deal with the traitor, Kuang Yu Min (Lee-Hom Wang) stabs him in the gut. He had to be stabbed several more times before he finally dies mid-flight down the stairs to the basement.
• When Wang Chia Chi runs into Kuang Yu Min in Shanghai, he introduces her to Old Wu (Chung Hua Tou) who then decides to resurrect the Mak Tai Tai cover to embed Wang Chia Chi in his family. The plan works only too well as she eventually ensnares Mr. Yee (Tony Leung) once and for all, but not until after he savagely rapes and basically brutalizes her treating her like a prostitute and not the woman he secretly loves.
• After this encounter, the two have many more trysts all culminating in harsh intercourse designed and orchestrated by Yee to help him feel alive.
• In a curious moment, Mr. Yee leaves Mak Tai Tai with an envelope to take to a jeweler. She takes the letter to Kuang and Old Wu who steam it open to find nothing but Yee's business card. So, they re-seal it and have her deliver it as planned. When she arrives at the jewelry shop, a helpful attendant takes her to the owner who opens the letter, receives Mr. Yee's card and announces to her that Mr. Yee has arranged for her to make a selection from several gorgeous diamonds and a special setting for a ring. She picks out a spectacular quail-egg sized diamond of 6 carats and light purple in color. The Ending:
Mak Tai Tai is at the Western coffee shop where the story begins, making the call to her second brother, that turns out really to be a call to Kuang Yu Min to alert him and his operatives that now is the time to begin the plan. The plan is to execute Yee at some point during the return to pick up the ring at the jewelry store. When Yee picks her up at the coffee shop which is near the jewelry store, she suggests they go back as the ring might be ready. When they exit the car, the slamming of the doors echoes in the street like gunshots causing her jitters. She looks around nervously for the operatives whom she spots in various locations. They enter the store, and the jeweler gives her the beautiful, though ostentatious ring. She puts in on then moves to take it off. Yee commands her to leave it on. After looking at him for a long time and thinking about the ring, she says covertly, "Now you must go!" He gets the message and runs like a jack rabbit from the shop leaping into the awaiting car in the nick of time. She stares at the ring a while. Next we learn that Yee's men have arrested all of the operatives except Old Wu. The government has known of and suspected Yee of being a traitor in collaboration with the rebels due to his connection with Mak Tai Tai whom they know to be Wang Chia Chi, a member of a small resistance cell back in Hong Kong. Now they know though that Yee is not working with her due to the attempt on his life. So, Yee signs the paper for their execution by 10 pm at the South Quarry. They are taken and lined up along the edge. Wang Chia Chi looks down the line at the row of her fellow resistance fighters knowing she is responsible for their execution after betraying them to Yee. Yee listens to the clock strike 10 at him home knowing that the woman he loved is now gone.
