Spoiler Points: The Ending
• Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks) works so hard and effectively, he manages to arm the Afghans to levels where they are able to oust the Soviets from their nation. Unfortunately, he is then subsequently unable to convince anyone to give money to building schools in the nation now populated one-half by people under the age of 14. He is disappointed by the outcome of the committee meeting where his funding proposals go unheeded, and other Congressmen tell him that nobody cares about his new passions to rebuild Afghanistan. It is important to note that, historically, the power that took over after the Soviets were driven out, were the Taliban.
