Spoiler Points for What Happens in Vegas
• Jack Fuller (Ashton Kutcher) gets fired by his father (Treat Williams) from their furniture making factory.
• Joy McNally (Cameron Diaz) gets dumped by her fiancée at his surprise birthday party.
• Jack and Joy end up together in the same hotel suite in Las Vegas with their sidekicks of Hater (Rob Corddry) and Tipper (Lake Bell) due to a mixup. After narrowling beating them to within an inch of their lives, they end up getting separate rooms and spending the evening getting to know each other. Jack has a way of loosening up Joy from her Wall Street ladder-climbing self.
• Joy wakes up with a vending machine wedding ring and a note "Love You Wifey".
• As they amicably agree to separate and put this marriage behind them the next morning, they argue about who gets to dump whom leading to Jack putting her quarter in a slot machine and winning $3 million. Subsequently, now she wants half the money.
• A Manhattan Judge (Dennis Miller) freezes the money and sentences them to 6 months of hard marriage and counseling with Dr. Twitchell (Queen Latifah).
• It doesn't take long for Joy to realize she cannot live with Jack the slob. The only way to get her half is to get him to lose it all. The two realize the same thing and start to make their life together miserable. They realize that getting the one to cheat would give the judge an opportunity to see the true nature of the other and award all of the money to him/her.
• When all else fails, Joy pulls the family card and invited Jack's parents for dinner. They both then attend Jacks's uncle's barbeque in the park. Here, Joy sees the more sensitive side of Jack as he coaches the kid softball team. By the end of it, she's no longer sure how she feels about him and her plan to involve his parents flopped.
• Joy pulling the family card send Jack on a mission to see Joy's ex-fiancée to return the engagement ring Joy left in their bathroom and talk her up. He figures if the two get back together, he'll have Joy out of his hair forever.
• But, at a retreat for Joy's company where she's being observed for a promotion by her boss played by Dennis Farina, Jack shows up with a new plan, to charm himself into the gathering to the point where he can get Joy to sign over all claim to the money in exchange for him not blowing her promotion. After succeeding with every element of his plan, he does not expect the unexpected. Neither does Joy, it's clear they area actuall falling in love.
• Despite the obvious electricity between them as she notices more and more of his good qualities and he hers, they still sleep apart. He does not force Joy to sign the hastily written up contract, however. Before they are about to appear in court again after their 6 months, Joy's ex-fiancée shows up with the ring indicating he wants her back and he's sorry. She's furious. She realizes that Jack has to have set this up. She's also disillusioned. At the hearing, the Judge awards them equal shares of the money, but then Joy has her attorney speak up and say she wants nothing.
• She walks up to the table and gives Jack the ring saying that she really never wanted anything from him. He looks like he just got kicked in the gut. She walks out, abandons her friends, and quits her job despite getting the coveted promotion. She quotes Jack in saying she'd rather be happy doing nothing than doing something that doesn't make her happy or something to that effect.
• Jack is so forlorn. He realizes how deeply he loves Joy. He searches for her and finds her wake. Eventually, though, he puts two and tow together and realizes she's probably gone to the place she spent her happiest day, a lighthouse on the ocean. She left behind the picture of it when she expeditiously moved out of his apartment. He finds there are 5 lighthouses in the proximity she mentions and tracks her down. Once on the beach with her, he kneels and proposes. She accepts.

Spoiler for Scenes During and After Credits:
• During the credits are the scenes showing when and how Jack and Joy actually got married.
• After the credits there is a short scene between two of Jack's friends who suddenly realize he was the glue holding them together and they split up.
