Spoiler Points for Burn After Reading:
The Funny Parts:
• Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt) phones up Osborne Cox (John Malkovich) to propose that Osborne pay for his lost computer disk which Chad things are top secret government files and Osborne know they are his memoir files. The conversation goes badly from start to finish, but Chad never gives up.
• George Clooney's character, Harry builds a contraption designed to allow women to sit and please themselves. He shows it to Linda (Frances McDormand) who declares it spectacular.
• Linda and Chad try to sell Osborne's files to the Russians without much success.
The Shocking Parts:
• Linda promises the Russians they can get more and better files. So, she sends Chad to Osborne's home to obtain them. Just after he arrives, Harry returns from his run, showers, goes to the closet for a tie, startles the hiding Chad, and shoots him in the head, dead. This unnecessarily violent and tragic scene could have been tempered, but then maybe it wouldn't have been pure Coen Bros.
• Osborne Cox, made penniless by his wife, returns home for liquor and runs into the gym manager, Ted (Richard Jenkins) who has come in to retrieve the files that Chad could not. She doesn't know he's dead, she believes he's been kidnapped, probably by Russians, and Ted goes to get the files so they can use them to get Chad back. Osborne shoots him twice in the chest and then chased him out of the house and starts hacking at him with an axe.
