If halfway through HSM3, you got the urge to rush down to your corner basketball court / center stage and perform your own basketball dance routine and therefore missed the rest of the film or if you want to know which songs fit where in the story, then this spoiler's for you.

• The film begins with the Wildcats down at the half in the state high school basketball championship game. Troy (Zac Efron) and Chad (Corbin Bleu) bring the team back and win the game off a pass from Troy to Jimmie "The Rocketman" Zara (Matt Prokop) who scores the final lay-up.
[ this includes the first dance number "Now or Never" High School Musical Cast - High School Musical 3: Senior Year (Audio + Video) [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] ]
• After the game, they all go to Zac's house for a huge celebration party. There's no sign of kids drinking. It's a good, clean, happy party. It's pretty clear that Rocketman has a bro-crush on Zac.
• Zac and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) can be found up in Zac's tree house he and his dad built when he was a kid. They talk about her getting in to Stanford and about his future plans to got to University of Albuquerque. The tree house is really cool, and serves as the location for the next musical number with the roof flipping open so they can dance and sing under the stars.

• The next day at school, Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) arrives and hires a new personal assistant, Tiara Gold (Jemma McKenzie-Brown). She's a transfer from a school in London and has Sharpay all figured out.
• Jimmie asks Troy for his locker.
• Troy heads into homeroom. No one wants to be in the musical, but Kelsi (Olesya Rulin) signs them up anyway. Finally, Gabriella convinces Troy who then convinces everyone to do the spring musical because it's their last chance to be together. Ms. Darbus (Alyson Reed) informs them the musical will be called "Senior Year" and will be about their final months at East High. She also brings up that Sharpay, Ryan (Lucas Grabeel), Kelsi, or, surprisingly, Troy will be offered a chance of a Julliard scholarship based on their final performances. Troy has no idea how they got his name, he's never even heard of Julliard.
• She has them line up and tell what their future will be. Troy has no idea. It's clear he's having doubts about the future his father has planned for him and the one he might want for himself.
• Sharpay wants Ryan to get the songs that Kelsi prepares for Troy and Gabriella. They head to the lunch room and break out in a gigantic musical number straight out of a real Broadway musical.
[ The song is called "I Want It All" Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel & High School Musical Cast - High School Musical 3: Senior Year (Audio + Video) [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] ]
• The next day before school, Troy calls Gabriella up to the rooftop garden where he asks her to pick out his tux for prom. They dance and waltz until it starts to rain.

• The next day at school, Chad messes up his Prom invite to Taylor so Troy helps him out at lunch. She agrees to go with him.
[ This is then followed by the getting ready for prom stage number "A Night to Remember" High School Musical Cast - High School Musical 3: Senior Year (Audio + Video) [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] ]

• Gabriella gets into the Stanford honors program, and Tiara overhears her telling Taylor. She tells no one else.

• That night he shows up at Gabriella's house with a Margherita pizza and chocolate-covered strawberries. He asks her how come she didn't tell him about Stanford, and she says she's thinking about delaying Stanford and staying in Albuquerque for another year. She wants everything to slow down. He says, they are going to graduate and it's not going to slow down for them. She says not to worry about it, she's better at goodbyes than he is. They smooch and he leaves. His truck won't start, so he walks home.
[ This transitions into Gabriella's goodbye number called "Walk Away" High School Musical Cast & Vanessa Hudgens - High School Musical 3: Senior Year (Audio + Video) [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] ]
