Spoiler Points:
• The family's last name is Whitfield.
• Joseph Black (Delroy Lindo) and Ma'Dere (Loretta Devine) have been living together since Mel (Lauren London) went to college, and only Quentin (Idris Elba) really doesn't know this.
• Malcolm Moore (Laz Alonso) has been cheating on Lisa (Regina King) for some time.
• Ma'Dere lives in constant fear she'll lose Baby Michael (Chris Brown) to the world of musicians that she lost her husband and eldest son, Quentin to years ago.
• Claude (Columbus Short) has gone AWOL and married Sandi (Jessica Stroup). He doesn't know that she is pregnant.
• Baby sings at open mic night.
• Quentin owes some bad guys $25,000.

The Ending:
• Kelli (Sharon Leal) puts pressure on Lisa who then flees in the custom Caddy and sends it into the Los Angeles river. Back at home she baby oils the bathroom floor and then beats Malcolm with his own belt when he gets out of the shower. She plans to get divorced ASAP.
• Quentin steals back his train ticket from the goons to whom he owes money and whom Ma'Dere has invited into their home for the holidays, and flees the house, but not before getting an early X-mas give from Baby. At the station, he opens it and finds it's a picture album. He goes to the restroom and gets jumped by the goons, Mo and Dude. They beat him up pretty bad until Joe Black arrives and gives them $10,000 and a promise not to turn them into the police on outstanding warrants for their arrest. While Quentin is thankful, he gets on the train and leaves anyway.
• Joe Black arranges for Michael 'Baby' to sing at church to dazzle his mother.
• Claude is allowed to come back before being shipped off to Camp Pendleton for punishment due to the night club incident and going AWOL to see his family at the church where they go every Sunday.
• At Christmas dinner, suddenly, Quentin returns making Ma'Dere so happy. He declines to sit at the head of the table allowing Joe Black to keep his spot.
