Spoiler Points:
• Just before the film's climax, Georgie (Devon Gearhart) escapes and manages to get to the neighbor's house. There he learns the grisly truth that Peter (Brady Corbet) and Paul (Michael Pitt) have killed their neighbors one by one. Unfortunately, despite his locating of a shot gun, Paul turns the tables on him and takes him back home. Not long after, he meets his tragic demise in one of the most gruesome and horrifying child murders ever committed—the act is not shown on film, but occurs off screen and then the aftermath is shown. The act ensues after a now infamous rewind scene. As Ann (Naomi Watts) manages to get a hold of the shotgun, she uses it to shoot Peter. Paul is outraged. He searches for and finds the remote control rewind button, rewinds the film, and this time maintains possession of the gun. After which, when he leaves to get a sandwich, Peter sort of accidentally shoots Georgie brutally killing him.
• The boys are freaked out by their actions, and seem to leave the house. Ann and George seize this opportunity to try to get help. George is too badly hurt to go, but Ann manages to get free. She runs from house to house for help, eventually, however, she is picked up by Paul and brought home to watch her husband get shot.
• Peter and Paul then take her out on her boat, bound and gagged, and toss her body into the lake. They set sail across the lake to the home of Ann and George's friends whom they met the day before. They introduce themselves and ask if they can borrow some eggs.
