The Bucket List (2008) [PG-13]-- W.I.P. Scale™ Rating: $13.75
Review-lite: Here are Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman in The Bucket List directed by Rob Reiner from Justin Zackham's screenplay at their finest. Playing each a cantankerous old man of his own kind, Freeman on the softer side, the accidental hospital roommates learn of similar six-month fates. Shortly after, they are jet-setting spending as much of Nicholson's Edward Cole's money as they can. Along the way, the two become best friends each impacting the other's lives in more ways than one. The result is a dramedy that can have a miraculous effect on a willing soul. (click for full details and complete review)

Funny Games (2008) [R]-- W.I.P. Scale™ Rating: $13.00
Review-lite: In 1997, Michael Haneke's Euro-version of Funny Games hit the screen unleashing his nihilistic and gruesome portrayal of the worst side of human immorality onto to the sophisticated audiences. It remained to be seen, however, how, if at all, the film might play in the USA where "Enchanted" Disney® themes play well as do gruesome horror gore fests. But how would an unnerving and diabolical story of two young men, Peter (Brady Corbet) and Paul (Michael Pitt) who 'innocently' worm their way into a family's summer home with happenstance approaches only to subsequently entangle them into a deceitful web of lies, imminent danger, and horrific torture find any appeal? Using unexpected devices Haneke forces the audience down his rabbit hole realizing too late that they are the real victims in his 'funny' game. Haneke sets the film up and carrys things along, but then kicks you in the stomach before letting you go. (click for full details and complete review)

Jumper (2008) [PG-13]-- W.I.P. Scale™ Rating: $11.75
Review-lite: Possessing more hype than substance in the end, were it not for Jamie Bell's role as Griffin that semi-redeems the film from pointless doldrums, then Jumper could be quickly relegated to a complete pass up list, instead, it falls on the 'wait for DVD' list. Unfortunately, too many writer-cooks sort of spoiled this adaptation of Steven Gould's novel with a nearly unlikable 'hero' David Rice (Hayden Christensen) and a malevolent villain Roland (Samuel L. Jackson) who lacks clear motivations. (click for full details and complete review)
