Spoiler Points for 88 Minutes
• Clue 1 – Lauren Douglas (Leelee Sobieski) mentions in lecture that she's "been there done that" in reference to law school.
• Clue 2 – Lauren Douglas is in the lecture hall at the time that the note to Gramm (Al Pacino) about his minutes left to live shows up hand written on the overhead projector.
• Clue 3 – Lauren Douglas is not convincing beyond the surface when she pretends to have been attacked and to have bitten he hand of the person who supposedly assaulted her in the stairwell.
• Clue 4 – Lauren Douglas mentions that the murdered student was so happy to have been able to talk openly with Jack about her past and to reach some closure.

All of this leads up to the revelation that Lauren Douglas has been working under the influence of Jon Forster (Neal McDonough) who was in fact the Seattle Slayer. Seduced by his charm, she works to orchestrate an elaborate plan including stealing the cassette tape of Jack's sister the night she was raped and killed in New York City that caused him to abandon his life, move to Seattle and try to start over again, this time with the intention to catch evil killers which, by the way, 88 Minutes is the time it took for that killer to kill his sister hence the title and hence the game of 88 minutes being played on Jack by Forster and Douglas.
• After suspicion is thrown onto every possible ally of Jack's, it turns out that many have been drawn in on purpose by Douglas from utilizing Jack's research assistant Kim's ex-boyfriend and current stalker Guy LaForge (Stephen Moyer) as a shadowy person to confuse Jack as to why this guy's suddenly everywhere to the seduction by Douglas of Shelly Barnes (Amy Brenneman), Jack's assistant to get at the tape.
• Eventually, the climax is unveiled, and Douglas has captured both Dean Carol Johnson (Deborah Kara Unger) and Kim (Alicia Witt) using them as the bait to lure in Gramm, get him to confess to having set up Forster to take the fall for crimes that he, in fact, had committed himself with this dual murder of Dean Johnson and Kim his final swan song before she would presumably push him off onto the mezzanine level from the 7th floor and make herself the hero by both exonerating the wrongly imprisoned Forster and catching the real killer Gramm. Fortunately for Gramm, his own personal FBI guy, Special Agent Frank Parks (William Forsythe) arrives just in time to put a bullet through Johnson's head and the quick thinking Gramm is able to save Dean Johnson from plummeting to her death. Unfortunately, Lauren Douglas could not be saved succumbing to the traditional ending for mass murderers like herself, falling off a building 7 stories to her own death.
