Spoiler Points for Speed Racer the Major Motion Picture
• Just like in the cartoon series, Rex Racer (Scott Porter) has a dispute with his father, Pops (John Goodman), causing him to leave the family business and try to make it on his own as a race car driver. This disheartens his younger brother, Speed (Nicholas Elia) who idolizes him. Unlike the cartoon, to make his transition complete, he fakes his death in a fatal accident and emerges as Racer X (Matthew Fox). From this new identity he can escape the family spotlight and scrutiny.
• Heartbroken, Speed (Emile Hirsch) grows up to follow in his deceased brother's footsteps. He seems to be at least as good if not better than his brother, and the conniving CEO of Royalton Industries, Mr. Royalton (Roger Allam) tries to recruit him to his racing team. But Speed Racer turns him down and only shortly will he regret his decision as Royalton makes his life and that of his family a living nightmare.
• Eventually, Speed Racer is approached by a secret organization bent on bringing Royalton to justice. He agrees to help, but things aren't always as they seem.
• Part of the plan turns out to be a plot by a Japanese company simply to raise the price of their stock so that Royalton will have to pay more to get control of the company.
• This double-crossing causes Speed Racer to doubt his purpose and his ability to protect his family. But, an inspirational meeting with Racer X turns things around and motivates him to wing the Grand Prix. It is revealed that indeed, Racer X is Speed's long-lost brother, despite the fact that his physical appearance convinces Speed that he is not. This is necessary, from Rex's position, to keep his family safe.
• Pops and the team build him a new car as the Mach 5 was destroyed, and Speed goes on to win the Grand Prix despite 50 years of it being fixed to ensure the profits of big racing car companies. Everyone in the family gets in on the action of accepting the trophy.
