The Incredible Hulk (2008) [PG-13]-- W.I.P. Scale™ Rating: $12.50
Review-lite: More artful, daring, and decidedly dark, this reboot of the Incredible Hulk directed by Louis Leterrier and co-written by Bruce Banner actor Edward Norton features a more developed storyline but unfortunately also a more predictable one whereby The Incredible Hulk must battle an enemy, the morphed version of Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), in a very King Kong-esque series of scenes taking place in Manhattan. Liv Tyler takes the role of Betty Ross, and William Hurt dismantles the usefulness and motivation of Gen. Thaddeus Ross. Not quite Iron Man, the film, however, leaps largely over its predecessor looking to fulfill Incredible Hulk fans' hopes for a worthy, big screen adaptation. The Strangers (2008) [R]-- W.I.P. Scale™ Rating: $11.00
Review-lite: Borrowing most of the plot from Vacancy and Funny Games, Bryan Bertino's The Strangers has neither the quality of acting of Funny Games nor the better plot of Vacancy; and, yet, it's by far the most effective of the three when it comes to actually scaring the daylights out of you. With little gore and tomandandy soundtrack, The Strangers will leave a lasting impression of fear if you can sit through until the end—a worthy challenge of your bravery. This is a simple film of inexplicable terror, that will grip you and offer no solace in the end. If only debut writer/ director Bertino had conceived and planted a Hitchcock Psycho twist, though, he would have had a suspense masterpiece on his hands. (click for full details and complete review)
