High School Musical Movie Poster Extravaganza

In January 2006, the Disney Channel took a bold risk in releasing Kenny Ortega's High School Music. It went on to be one of the highest rated Disney Channel films of all time and spawned an entire cottage industry related to the tv movie. The film made instant stars out of the leads including Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman. Before long, their faces were plastered on everything from notebooks to bed spreads. The success led to the production of a sequel, High School Musical 2 which focused on the summer antics of the leading characters, and it's phenomenal success warranted Disney to inform fans that the third installment would NOT go straight to TV, but rather, it would appear as a full-length feature film to arrive in the fall of 2008. The Mummy Movie Poster Extravaganza

On 7 May 1999, Brendan Fraser became an action hero with Stephen Sommers's The Mummy inaugurating that summer with a huge action adventure few would have suspected would be an instant success. Naturally, a sequel followed in 2001 called The Mummy Returns which reunited the cast of Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, and Oded Fehr in an equally entertaining film this time with the added bonus of "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson as Mathayus the Scorpion King—his first real theatrical role and one which led to a spin-off, not really a sequel, entitled The Scorpion King. To the delight of Mummy and Fraser fans, a third installment was announced to coincide with the Beijing Olympics, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor taking place in China and featuring a new director, Rob Cohen, new writers, new Evelyn (Maria Bello in place of Rachel Weisz), Chinese superstars Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, a son for Rick and Evelyn, Alex (Luke Ford), and entirely new armies of mummies, and a new indomitable creature, the Yeti. Batman Movie Poster Extravaganza

In 1989, Tim Burton and his controversial cast of Michael Keaton (not thought to be very Batman-esque) and Jack Nicholson (thought to be a bit over the top to play the humble villain of the Joker) brought the DC Comics® comic book hero turned tv show hero to the big screen in what turned out to be a great summer blockbuster that spawned three sequels:
• Batman Returns--new villains: Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer) and The Penguin (Danny DeVito),
• Batman Forever--new director (Joel Schumacher), new Batman (Val Kilmer), new sidekick Robin (Chris O'Donnell), new villains: The Riddler (Jim Carey) and Two Face (Tommy Lee Jones), and new girlfriend, Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman),
• Batman & Robin--new Batman (George Clooney), added sidekick Batgirl (Alicia Silverstone), new villains: Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman). This film was considered the weakest of the bunch and spent way, way too much time as did the previous one developing the characters of the villains rather than focusing on the heroes. Hence, it was considered the end of the Batman film franchise. That was until Batman enjoyed a comic book resurgence in the graphic novel world. It was edgier, darker, and more introspective Batman than anyone had ever known. It was less about utility belts and the cartoonesque villains and more about the tortured soul of a young man, forced to witness the death of his parents, and how he rose to become Batman after a long, long journey of self-discovery. It was only a matter of time, then before Hollywood would come calling again. But this time, with a darker storyline, more imaginative back story; and, perhaps, the best actor to ever don the suit in Christian Bale, a new film re-envisioned the franchise giving it a much needed overhaul and kick start. The film, to say the least, was phenomenal and rightfully critically acclaimed. Few knew if there would or would not be a sequel despite a hint in the calling card of the Joker being played at the very end of the film. Once green-lighted, though, the film with Heath Ledger cast in the role Jack Nicholson had made famous on the big screen and Cesar Romero before him in the classic 1960s television series, took on a life of its own made even more mysterious when the tragic death of Heath Ledger propelled his role into history before it even lit the screen. In honor of the Batman film franchise, movieEVERYday presents this movie poster extravaganza. Remember how disappointed people were with the selection of Michael Keaton to play Batman? Or how about when Joel Schumacher decided to monkey around with the bat suit giving Batman nipples? Then there was the pre-occupation with the villains. Was Jim Carrey too outlandish to play The Riddler? And why so many villains? And then the new Batman? No one seemed to question the casting of Christian Bale (who would) but why no traditional villain? Who's this scarecrow? Well, in the wee hours of 18 July 2008, the epic saga continued with no end in sight to the controversies of this now nearly 20-year old film franchise.
